A Doctor's First Airplane: Bernardo's Bristell Classic

A first-time buyer from Monterrey, Mexico, configures his Bristell Classic from day one with Bristell Aircraft Texas, and takes delivery at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026.

Bernardo Saviñon is a medical doctor from Monterrey, Mexico, and new to aviation. He earned his pilot license with the support of McAllen Flight Academy and bought his first aircraft, a brand-new Bristell Classic, through Bristell Aircraft Texas, the authorized dealer at McAllen International Airport. He helped configure it himself: a fuel-injected Rotax 912 iS Sport, a Garmin suite with a G5 and GDL 51, and a unique “military gray” finish that came, in his words, as a complete surprise — because he saw the finished airplane for the first time at handover, on display at the Rotax exhibit at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026.

Bernardo Saviñon on choosing his first aircraft.

I was part of the configuration of the plane since day one, and that gave me a lot of confidence.

He had first weighed used legacy aircraft, but the unknowns of an older airframe gave way to the certainty of a brand-new aircraft built to his own spec.
